In the 1970s, when Shri Tara Chand Ji Chopra, already a name to reckon with in Delhi’s book circles, decided to launch his own publishing house, he naturally chose the name of his little grandson for the ambitious venture and that is how Neeraj Publications was born and how Neeraj Chopra who is heading it at present, is literally involved in the affairs of publishing right from his birth! Tara Chand Ji put Neeraj Publications on stream in 1982. The first book published by him was “Local Government”. The second title was “Applied Sociology”. Both were for students of Osmania University, Hyderabad and they were an immediate success. There followed a series of books, mostly that aimed at helping students in easily understanding the subjects and passing the exams with good marks.

From the very moment of inception itself, Tara Chand Ji was ably helped in his publishing endeavors by his son Shri Chander Chopra who was then a young businessman in his mid-twenties. The farsightedness and visionary outlook of Chander Ji soon saw Neeraj Publications soaring to new heights of success in the publishing world. Under his dynamic business acumen a nationwide network of dealers was set up. Chander Chopra Ji published hundred of new titles during the 90s to cater to the requirements of students of a wide range of courses for various universities and boards.
In the eventful decades under the leadership of Shri Chander Chopra, Neeraj Publications became a household name throughout the country. Its books helped thousands of students appearing for various courses of Osmania University, secondary & senior secondary exams of the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) formally known as “National Open School” all over the nation.
In 1998 Shri Chander Ji Chopra entrusted the management of Neeraj Publications to his youthful son Neeraj Chopra. Having set his eyes on transforming the publishing house into a world class venture, Neeraj Chopra’s first decisive action was to start publishing books for the courses of then upcoming Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). After decade right now, the name of Neeraj Publications has become synonymous with books for IGNOU and NIOS students. In the last decade the company has expanded its wings and explored many new avenues of publishing as a leading educational publisher.
The thrust areas chosen by Neeraj Chopra have been reference books for various courses of distance education universities including the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), The Courses were like B.C.A., M.C.A., M.B.A., B.A., B.Com., B.Sc., M.A., M.Com. and so on. Other segments are “Children Books” (from Nursery to 5th Class) and “Dictionaries” under the New Brand Name / Trade Mark “MAX-FORD”. Ever since Neeraj Chopra took over its reins the company has grown up by leaps and bounds. Today, there is at least one dealer of Neeraj books in every major town of India. Neeraj books have become identified with aspirations of IGNOU students all over the country. About the Chairman of Neeraj Publications
Neeraj Chopra who heads Neeraj Publications is also actively associated with several social organizations & Business Associations.
He is the General Secretary of the Booksellers and Publishers Association, and is always eager to work for the promotion of the Book Trade & how he could help the people carrying out Publication Business.
He is also the secretary of Nai Sarak Vyapar Sangh, one of the largest trade associations in the Old Delhi Region. Mr. Chopra is involved in Several Activities Dealing with the Problems of Business Community in the Area related to Delhi Govt., MCD, Electricity, Tax, Registration, Licensing etc.
